An education academic has appealed to parents to remain calm when discussing politics with their children.

Dr Eva Lau, an Associate Professor from the Education University, said in a radio programme that parents should keep an open mind when listening to their children.

“I think parents need to accept that children may not have the same perspective as themselves,” she said. “But it is important they understand why they are having such perspectives and such beliefs.”

Dr Lau said parents do not need to agree with their children but they can show that different opinions can be heard.
