Hong Kong’s men’s rugby sevens team have made big strides toward qualifying for the Olympics after reaching their third successive Cup final in the Asia Rugby Sevens Series.

Hong Kong defeated China 24-19 in the semifinals before losing 17-12 to Japan in the third and final leg in Colombo.

Liam Herbert was Hong Kong’s top scorer in Colombo with five tries in total. In the group stage, the SAR cruised past South Korea, UAE, and hosts Sri Lanka.

By reach the Cup final in all three legs, Hong Kong have qualified as top seeds in the Olympic qualifiers, which will be played November 23-24 in Incheon, South Korea.

Hong Kong’s women took the Plate in Colombo by beating Singapore 22-5.
