Taxi drivers flew national flags on the back of their vehicles on Tuesday as they joined a convoy from the New Territories to Kowloon and Hong Kong Island to mark National Day.

The Taxi Drivers & Operators Association said some 2,000 taxis took part in the event to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The drivers first gathered in Tsing Yi to wave Chinese flags and sing the national anthem.

They then got into their cabs and the convoy went down to the Western Harbour Tunnel to get onto Hong Kong Island, along the Central-Wan Chai Bypass, and then back to Kowloon via the Eastern Harbour Crossing.

Bryan Lin from the association said it was spontaneous demonstration of the drivers’ love for the country.
