Dozens of people from two pro-Beijing groups have called for implementation of emergency laws, saying the situation in Hong Kong warrants it.

The demonstrators, who rallied outside the government headquarters, also demanded a ban on face masks during protests.

They said they believe emergency laws are needed to calm the situation in Hong Kong.

The convenor of one of the groups, Real Hongkongers’ View, Frederick Lau, said he doesn’t think introducing emergency laws would damage the city’s reputation.

“Hong Kong is in an emergency situation, because the economy is going down… Hong Kong cannot be in this situation for a long time,” he said.

The second group, Hong Kong grassroot alliance, said they love Hong Kong and China and want the violence and chaos to stop.

They also said police should use their guns if the officers feel their life is under threat.
