As masked anti-government demonstrators played yet another game of cat-and-mouse with riot police in Causeway Bay on Sunday, dozens of people outside the Times Square mall chose to air their views in another way – by patiently folding hundreds of paper cranes.

They heeded an online call to participate in the activity, putting their brightly-coloured handiwork in a huge spiral pattern in the public area right outside the mall, in a display meant to display the people’s determination to achieve freedom.

Throughout the process, people sporadically chanted anti-extradition movements such as “Five demands, not one less”, and “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our time.”
