President Rodrigo Duterte has chosen the current labor attache in Taichung as the next head of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) here in HK, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said.
Bello said the President chose Labor Attache Fidel Macauyag as the replacement of former Labor Attache Jalilo Dela Torre.
The labor chief said Macauyag was expected in Hong Kong by the first week of September.
Macauyag has been serving as labor attache in Taichung since last year. Before his posting in Taiwan, Macauyag was assigned as labor attache in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 2017.
Bello sent him to the oil-rich kingdom after picking him out of the Office of the Prosecutor General, where Macauyag was detailed in August 2016 after serving as city prosecutor of Cagayan De Oro for nine years.
Macauyag will be taking over the POLO as Hong Kong continues to be rocked by anti-government protests. There are an estimated 230,000 overseas Filipinos in Hong Kong.
