Riot police were called in on Sunday to extract Patrick Nip, the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, after anti-extradition protesters surrounded his car and trapped him for about 15 minutes.

Objects were thrown at him as he was walking to his vehicle following an event in Tsing Yi to celebrate the upcoming seventieth anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.

Footage also showed a metal pole, traffic cones, sandbags and rubbish bins being thrown at the car when he was inside, cracking the lower part of the windscreen.

The car eventually left the scene escorted by riot police.
