Former chief secretary David Akers-Jones has died. He was 92.

Sir David served as the government’s number-two figure from 1985 to 1987, and became the acting governor when Edward Youde died in office in 1986.

He later served as the head of the Housing Authority and a Hong Kong affairs adviser to China.

Sir David supported CY Leung in his bid for chief executive in 2012.

Reports say the former chief secretary passed away at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
