Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah congratulated Hong Kong athletes for their outstanding performance at the 2nd National Youth Games in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province.


Mr Lau commended the athletes at a reception in Hong Kong today.


The Hong Kong team won a total of 40 medals, including 11 golds, 12 silvers and 17 bronzes in skating, football, handball, athletics, golf, triathlon, equestrian, karatedo, sport climbing, cycling, dancesport, fencing, badminton and tennis.


He said the Government will propose to significantly increase the subvention to the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and national sports associations to further promote sports development.


Held every four years, the National Youth Games is a mega sports event for youths aged 19 or below.
